SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOL

Safe Routes to School Illinois is a Federal Program from the National Center for Safe Routes to School under the United State Department of Transportation Federal Highway Administration. Schools that are eligible are schools that service Kindergarten through eighth grade, both Public and Private schools and can be sponsored by either a municipality, a school district or a not-for-profit organization.  Projects are funded at 100% with no local match required. Between 70% and 90% of funds will support infrastructure projects that improve the built environment for walking and bicycling around school zones.  10% to 30% of funds will support non-infrastructure programs, such as activities that education or encouraging safe walking and bicycling for students.
